眼を通して脳へ
眼球運動の背後にある回路を辿り、脳機能を解読する
絶えず変化する世界をうまく生き抜くには、脳は知覚を行動へと変換しなければなりません。感覚入力の大部分は視覚情報ですが、私たちは自分の眼球運動について意識することはほとんどありません。
私たちの研究室では、脳がどのように視覚情報を選択し、その情報を正確な眼球運動に変換するかを研究しています。毎日何千回も繰り返されるこれらの急速な眼球運動は、脳の意思決定プロセスを垣間見るための貴重な情報源となります。そのスピードと一見単純な動作にもかかわらず、実際には複数の脳領域に分布する精密に調整された神経回路に依存しています。
ヒトと動物の両モデルにおいて、行動、認知、神経生理学のアプローチを組み合わせることで、脳がどのように視覚情報と行動を結び付けているかを解明することを目指しています。私たちの研究は、脳のダイナミクスへの理解を深め、医学、人工知能、神経疾患の研究に新たな情報をもたらします。
