Gave an Invited Talk at the UK-Japan Neuroscience Symposium, March 2026
From March 23 to 26, 2026, Professor Mayu Takahashi attended the 7th UK-Japan Neuroscience Symposium, held at Christ’s College (Yusuf Hamied Centre), Cambridge, UK. Supported by AMED and the MRC (Medical Research Council), this symposium series aims to promote exchange and collaborative research between the UK and Japanese neuroscience communities.
Professor Takahashi took part in the Organizing Committee and gave a talk titled “A Unified Brainstem Switch for Fixation and Voluntary Eye Movements” in Session 4, “Sensorimotor Processing and Behaviour,” on the third day of the meeting. She introduced a shared gating mechanism, comprising the superior colliculus, inhibitory burst neurons, and omnipause neurons, that switches the brainstem circuitry between fixation and voluntary eye movements, prompting an active discussion. She also chaired Plenary Session 2 on the same day and co-chaired the poster blitz session on the second day, coordinating presentations by early-career researchers.
This symposium further expanded the research network between the UK and Japanese neuroscience communities.
