greeting

To young people who are interested in brain science.

Department of Physiology
Tohoku University School of Medicine
Prof. MUSHIAKE, Hajime

Aided by the recent development of various techniques, the research of brain is progressing rapidly. In recent years, scientists are even unveiling the neural basis of "consciousness" and "mind" which was once considered impossible to study scientifically. Also, the social aspect of brains' function such as communication is becoming a target of research in brain science. Besides from the conventional physiological methods that allow us to examine the brain functions at cellular level, other approaches such as molecular biology and genetics, cooperation with other fields such as robotics and nanotechnology, have made the brain science an integrated science which includes diverse research fields. Therefore, the study of brain can now be said to be open to anyone of any scientific background. Please contact us if you are willing to work on the issues including, 1. How does the brain implement the higher cognitive functions, initiate voluntary actions, and creatively solve problems? 2. How does the brain interact with the body and environment?
